There's no other option for lead instrument for a church group other than the accoustic guitar. Its wooden timbre lies perfectly cozily with that christian ideal of independece from things that are not godly; the acoustic may have been crafted by only their hands and imbued with the will of god. It's a toxic instrument (or rather — it is used toxically) because so often it is used to sententiously resolve a major cord or diminish one. Never do the play a minor or something not in line with M7. What use is some instrument that can be played easily poorly?

I do not have ears for the overly-moralizing musicians whose simple artistry seeks to resolve its will to catharsis, blindly hitting on M7s and diminished majors. Not their instrument, but the interpretation of the "artist!" is so putting-off to good ears.
