If you're very quiet on campus and are sure to not make a sound then you can hear the building's exhaust roaring quietly and forever but once you get close you realize that sound has always been there and always will bethere. There's nothing you can do about being subjected to sound; it has a very domineering mechanic of it, and that is you cannot deny it any right to existence. It exists without your permission, the roaring exhaust can never be told to stop.

But we deny its existence every day by. . . forgetting to hear it!
